5 star rating on Yelp.com

I must be living right. Five Guys opens in Mystic and now this. Just after swearing my allegiance to all things 5G, Cousin's shows up in a newspaper supplement about a month later. Good burgers followed by great hot dogs. And Cousin's is closer and has burgers too.

After patiently, yeah right, driving by the place for three days waiting for the opening day, my wife and I gave it a try on Wednesday. And Thursday.

I ordered a Coney Island dog and it was the bomb. A big all beef dog with fresh Chili, Kraut, Onions and Sabrett's mustard. These are 7 1/2 inch dogs on a nice fresh buns that hold all the extra stuff but don't make it impossible to eat. The mustard is a bit spicy, as an older customer mentioned several times, but yummy. After hearing her, I didn't think she had a chance of finishing. WRONG! She went through that dog like she hadn't eaten in days. Not a scrap left. I thought she was going to "roll" me for the dog we brought home to our daughter. Next visit I tried the same dog made with a "red hot" instead of the regular dog and found a new favorite thing. My wife had a Vermont dog, cheddar and bacon, and loved it. We opted for a third dog both days, for research purposes, and loved them too.

The place has some chicken sandwiches and burgers that looked good and wonderful fresh hand cut fries. The toppings list is 15 items long and includes the usual suspects as well as peanut butter and pineapple.  I must try a burger but that would require two trips in a day. Oh what the heck, for you good people, I'll make the sacrifice. And it's all of 2 miles from the old hacienda. Great! Just beware of the little old "cheese dog stealin" ladies from Tennessee.

Cheap, fresh, friendly and the only hot dog place around makes Cousins a can't miss stop for any hot dog lovin' foodie. Check out their website for the whole menu.

One caveat. Cousin's features Sabretts Hot Dogs which I think are Yankee dogs. The baseball kind, not the Civil War kind. Well, Nobody's perfect. Go to Cousin's! You'll love it.

Great little restaurant between Mystic, Ct and Westerly, RI

While driving from Mystic, CT to Westerly, RI we stopped at a great little restaurant, Cousins' Doghouse and Grille on Route 1 in Pawcatuck, CT. They offer some really unique specialty hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken sandwiches along with hand cut french fries. It is a really great place and the owners who cook and serve are the friendliest people. It was a vey pleasent experience and a fantastic find. We will be going back
